After nearly 2 years of implementation, the model raising sika deer for velvet in Krong Pa District, Gia Lai Province brings initial positive results. Does reproduced second generation, and stags’ velvet is harvested for the second time. Offspring from the first year is also prepared for velvet harvest.

Sika deer farming only requires care. After more than 1 year of breeding, stags (about 30-35 kilogram each) will mature; their velvet can be harvested.

With a weight of 400-500 grams/pair of velvet antlers, the market price for this product is VND20 million/kilogram. For fawns, the cost is VND10 million each.

Plantation:

Rubber is one of the key crops of Dak Nong Province. Yet, rubber farming is currently facing many difficulties due to falling prices. Along with that are challenges such as diseases, uneven development plan, and farmers spending little care to their orchards.

Once known as "white gold", rubber trees have helped many farmers change their lives and become wealthy. However, rubber farmers these days face losses, and have to switch to other crops. Many farming households even neglect and stop caring for their rubber orchards.

According to statistics, the development of rubber trees in the province in recent years is not stable. Specifically, in the period from 2010 to 2014, the total area of rubber increased sharply from 23,063 hectares to 31,311 hectares. But from 2015 to 2017, the area dropped sharply, from 31,311 hectares to 26,348 hectares. In 2018, the area of rubber in the province increased again and reached 29,643 hectares. This shows an uneven development plan of this crop. According to farmers, the main reason of this issue is due to unstable consumption market.

Fruits:

“Tu quy” mango farming in Thanh Phu District, Ben Tre Province is constantly increasing in area. Currently, the district has nearly 300 hectares of mango farming land.
Mango develops well in the district as farmers gradually apply scientific and technical advances to improve the quality and value of their mango trees. For example, they use water-saving irrigation systems and ensure nutrition for mango trees, which help them grow quickly.

Local farmers also follow the GlobalGAP standards and clean standards to meet market demand, as well as promote the processing of mango products.

Thanh Phu District is carrying out a procedure for announcing the certification trademark of " Thanh Phu tu quy mango" to continue developing mango farming in the region.

Farmers, Agriculture, Countryside:

At a press conference on a ceremony to honor 63 best farmers in 2019, the Vietnam Farmers' Union Central said there were many special farmers who became billionaires thanks to their creative and new farming methods. Among them, there are farmers who earn up to VND5 billion/year just by growing lemons.

The ceremony selection committee revealed that this year, there are outstanding farmers such as Long Van Nghia, the youngest farmer nominated, from Bac Lieu Province. Tran Thanh Nam from Ben Tre Province is the oldest nominee of the award.

The ceremony to honor and award the title of "Excellent Vietnamese Farmer in 2019" will be held on the evening of October 12, 2019 in Hanoi.

Living and Environment:

Recently, in Ea Po Commune, Cu Jut District, Dak Nong Province, many elephants have appeared and destroyed local farmers’ crops. In Ba Tang Village, authorities found elephant footprints and banana trees being destroyed by elephants. These banana trees are grown by local farmers. Currently, wild elephants are back into the forest.

Authorities recommends that local residents should not approach wild elephants. If elephants are found, people should quickly report them to authorities.
