Aquaculture:

Quyet Thang Agricultural Cooperative (in Long Huong Ward, Ba Ria City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province) has about 100 hectares of intensive white leg shrimp farming. However, in recent years, erratic weather has caused unstable productivity and shrimp production, along with diseases and mass deaths.

Therefore, the cooperative has selected and implemented super intensive shrimp farming with recirculating aquaculture systems (referred to as RAS). This is the first time the technology applied in Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province. According to leaders of Quyet Thang Agricultural Cooperative, this model helps reduce dependence on weather while increasing productivity and quality of commercial shrimp.

Total investment capital for shrimp farming using RAS technology in an area of ​​2,000 square meters is about VND5 billion. The cooperative harvested the first crop and received satisfactory results.

For its first crop, the cooperative experimented farming with an average density of 500 shrimp/square meter, which is 5 to 7 times more than the density of traditional farming method. After 3 months of farming, the cooperative harvested the first crop with a yield of 20 tons/2,000 square meter. With the price of whiteleg shrimp at VND140,000/kilogram (30-33 shrimp/kilogram), farmers earn at least VND500-600 million/crop. In addition, shrimp also grows faster with a farming time of 3 to 3.5 months instead of 4 months as before. Therefore, the cooperative can prepare for 3 shrimp crops/year regardless of the season and weather.

Pet, Flowers and Ornamental Plants:

"Discus fish – a passion" farm owned by Huynh Tuan Thanh in Trung An Commune, Cu Chi District was selected as one of the 4 ornamental fish farms with good management practice in Ho Chi Minh City.

“Discus fish – a passion" farm was formed more than a dozen years ago with 300 commercial ornamental fish tanks and 250 discus fish tanks.

Currently, Huynh's farm supplies different varieties of ornamental fish to not only Ho Chi Minh City, but also foreign countries such as Malaysia, South Korea, India, Thailand and Middle Eastern countries. Each year, the farm provides about 10,000 ornamental fish to the market.

Processing, Import and Export:

After falling in the first few months of this year, Vietnam's shrimp export to China began to recover from May to August with double-digit growth. In August 2019, Vietnam's shrimp export to China increased by 30% to $51.4 million.

In the first eight months of 2019, shrimp export to China reached $336.5 million, up 5% over the same period last year.

China's strict control of border trade and product quality makes shrimp export to this market in the first few months of the year affected.

Since May 2019, China's demand for shrimp imported from Vietnam has been higher. Vietnamese businesses have soon adjusted to meet this market’s requirements. Thus, Vietnam’s shrimp export to China still achieves positive growth despite changes in policies.
