According to the authority of Tra Vinh Province, the area of mud crabs in the province is more than 8,500 hectares, which is an increase by about 500 hectares over the same period last year. Of which, more than 30% of the area applies intensive farming method, with a productivity of 0.8-1, 2 tons per hectare.

In Ca Mau Province, farmers mostly farm mud crabs in combination with black tiger prawn on an area of about 248,000 hectares. The statistics include the area of shrimp – forests. Intensive and semi-intensive farming is applied in about 2,000 hectares.

2/ In Khanh Hoa Province, the price of commercial lobster of all kinds is declining. This situation makes farmers suffer from heavy losses. Specifically, the price of tropical rock lobster type 1 is only at VND1 - 1.1 million/kilogram. Painted spiny lobster type 1 ranges from VND570,000 - 580,000/kilogram.

Khanh Hoa Province currently has 56,199 aquaculture cages, including 49,376 cages for lobster farming. The rest are for marine fish farming.

Processing, Import and Export:

The U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) issued the final result of the 13th administrative review (POR 13) of anti-dumping tax on Vietnamese shrimp imported to the U.S. The report says that 31 Vietnamese businesses enjoy a 0% tax rate.

Two businesses, Sao Ta Foods Join Stock Company (Fimex VN) and Nha Trang Seaproduct Company, are mandatory defendants of POR13. Other 29 shrimp-producing businesses are voluntary defendants of the review. These businesses all receive a 0% tax rate when importing seafood from Vietnam to the U.S.

This is good news for the Vietnam’s shrimp industry. It is a motivation for businesses to continue promoting their shrimp export to the U.S.

Vietnam’s shrimp export to the U.S. in July this year was increased by 37.2% to $77 million. In the first 7 months of this year, shrimp export to this market reached $327.4 million, up 5% compared to last year.
