Background: Teruo Higa, a Professor from the University of the Ryukyus (Japan), studied and introduced the use of effective microorganisms (EM) technology in sustainable agricultural production. EM is a liquid mixture of beneficial microorganisms, probiotics, bacteria, yeasts, and fungi. It activates native microorganisms in water and soil as well as helps maintain a balanced farming environment. EM is environmentally friendly. It is safe for people and animals.
Method: Industrial feed mixed with EM and garlic extract helps shrimp prevent and fight disease.
Note: Do not feed shrimp EM and garlic in days of peeling.
To make EM with garlic extract, follow these steps:
Step 1: Prepare original EM, which is inactive microorganisms.
Step 2: Prepare EM5 without water components from the original EM. Include 20% EM, 20% molasses, 20% vinegar, 40% alcohol.
Step 3: The basic stages of combining EM and garlic:
+ Peel 1 kilogram of garlic.
+ Grind and mix garlic with 1 liter of EM5.
+ Add about 10 liters of water. Water should not contain chlorine.
+ Stir the mixture well.
+ Put on airtight lid and keep the solution for about 24 hours.
+ Filter water to get EM garlic. When pH levels of the mixture are 3.5-4, it is ready to be used.
Step 4: To feed shrimp, mix 1 liter of EM garlic with 10 kilograms of feed.
