Livestock:

Currently, the decline of pork price is being slowed down compared to the previous few days. Still, pork price remains at a high level and brings profit to farmers.

In Northern provinces of Vietnam, pork price remains at VND76,000 - 85,000/kilogram. In Hanoi City, the price is at VND82,000/kilogram, and in Hung Yen Province, pork is sold at VND84,000/kilogram.

Pork price in central provinces of Vietnam is also stable. In the provinces such as Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh, pork is sold at VND82,000/kilogram. In Quang Binh, Quang Tri, and Thua Thien – Hue Provinces, pork price is at VND81,000/kilogram; in Central Highlands at VND82,000/kilogram, and in Southern provinces at VND77,000 - 84,000/kilogram.

From now until the Lunar New Year 2020, the demand for pork consumption may increase. Thus, pig farms and farming households are preparing for this large sale of the year.

Plantation:

For the first time, Vietnamese shiitake (black mushroom) grown in Sa Pa has access to foreign markets. At the end of 2019, Sa Pa’s shiitake mushroom of Ha Lam Ltd. Co. was first exported to Taiwan. Each time, the Taiwanese partner orders 80 tons of dried shiitake.

Mushroom farm of Ha Lam Phong Ltd. Co. is located in Sa Pa Commune, Sa Pa Town, Lao Cai Province, at the height of 1,000 - 1,200 meters, which are suitable for shiitake to grow and develop.

The 1.5-hectare farm with 200,000 pots of mushroom is entering the harvest season. The farm provides to the market about 550 tons of fresh mushroom. Mushroom of Ha Lam Phong Ltd. Co.’s farm often has a large size with big cap; it has more fragrance than other mushrooms grown elsewhere.

Pet, Flowers and Ornamental Plants:

From a small, annual maintenance service during the Lunar New Year Holiday, caring for golden apricot blossom throughout the year has become a profession for many gardeners and brought a good source of income to them.

The service is different from seasonal repair because gardeners spend the whole year to plant and care for golden apricot blossom. Their end goals are to create beautiful trees at the right time for customers. Golden apricot blossom represents the traditional Vietnamese Lunar New Year Holiday. Thus, this annual care service is especially thriving during this time of the year.

It sounds simple, but compared to some other ornamental plants, to take care of this particular flower is much harder. In many cases, the tree’s root system must be washed and replanted. The plant then is shaped according to each customer’s preference. The price for caring for each tree ranges from VND500,000 to over VND1 million annually. This service is mainly for households who do not have much experience caring for apricot, those who lack of spaces, or agencies and businesses who want to decorate their offices only during the Lunar New Year event.

Fruits:

For a long time, red tangerine of Lai Vung District, Dong Thap Province is considered an essential specialty during the Lunar New Year Holiday. However, in the last 2 years, due to the influence of the root rot and green leaf epidemics on citrus, the yield of red tangerine in Lai Vung has decreased sharply. Currently, farmers are concerned about losing their crops before the Lunar New Year harvest season.

Coming to the land of Lai Vung red tangerine on these days, it will be difficult to find farmers’ exciting atmosphere to prepare for the Lunar New Year season like in many previous years. Disease on citrus has caused serious impacts to crop and production in this region.

Due to diseases, for the Lunar New Year 2020 crop, the whole district is expected to supply only about 3,000-4,000 tons of red tangerine to the market, a lot lower than last year.

Farmers, Agriculture, Countryside:

In 2020, the agricultural sector of Kien Giang Province will continue to promote restructuring of agriculture towards modernization, sustainability, and production of large commodities according to market requirements.

In particular, rice production should reach about 4.3 million tons. 80% of the total rice cultivation area of the province is planned for high-quality rice farming.

Seafood production from farming and exploitation should reach 755 thousand tons. Of which, shrimp farming is targeted at 85 thousand tons.

For livestock, he province strives to reach a total of 200,000 pigs, 18,000 buffaloes and cows, along with 6 million poultry.
