Aquaculture:
According to the Directorate of Fisheries, aquaculture production of Vietnam in 2021 was estimated at 4.75 million tons, up about 4.17% compared to 2020. Of which, the output of Pangasius was about 1.5 million tons, equal to the same period in 2020.
According to the Directorate of Fisheries, the Covid-19 pandemic may continue to be unpredictable in 2022, directly affecting logistics activities and indirectly affecting production and business activities of the seafood industry. In the months of January, February and March of 2022, there may be a shortage of processing materials. The seafood industry needs to actively manage difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic to sustain and develop production.
The directorate emphasized a need to strengthen production of seeds and input materials to serve the needs of stocking in December 2021 and the first months of 2022. In particular, localities should continue to manage stocking to ensure raw materials for aquaculture processing in 2022.
Processing, Import and Export:
In 2021, despite many difficulties and the impact of Covid-19, Soc Trang Province's shrimp exports still reached a positive result of $1 billion, an increase of nearly 23% compared to 2020.
Shrimp processing and exporting businesses in Soc Trang Province have made great efforts to both prevent the pandemic and maintain production activities.
Contributing greatly to the province’s high shrimp export turnover in 2021 are companies such as Soc Trang Seafood Joint Stock Company, Sao Ta Foods Joint Stock Company, Vietnam Clean Seafood Corporation, Tai Kim Anh Limited Liability Company, Ut Xi Seafood Processing Joint Stock Company, and Khanh Sung Limited Liability Company.
Not only achieving a high export turnover as expected, shrimp farming area and output in Soc Trang Province both increased compared to 2020, reaching over 53,000 hectares.
